Having selected Dingley as their new charity for the Year today it was time for the staff of M&S to put some muscle behind their commitment to the children’s charity. And so they did, with a spectacular display of team work and dedication. From 9am throughout the entire day the Admirals and Seamen of the Parkway flagship store steadfastly sculled two rowing machines a total of 150km in support of local children with special educational needs.

Spurred on by the support and generosity of the store’s customers who collectively tossed over £500 in to the buckets manned by more willing and helpful staff the M&S crew were supported by Knights4Charity who kindly provided the rowing machines and expertise for the day.

Store manager Bex Robson was delighted with how the day had gone “We’re thrilled to be involved with a charity that has such close connections to both staff and customers. It has been wonderful to hear people’s first-hand experience of the family and nursery services provided by Dingley here in Newbury. This is a true close to home cause that our team are proud to be supporting”.

One generous customer donating his newspaper money for that day was happy to know his forfeit could help young SEN children along the way to reading their own newspapers in time.

The current group at Dingley’s Newbury centre includes residents of Hungerford amongst both carers and children.

Commercial manager Hedley Palmer having completed his impressive stint on the oars said “It was great rowing next to the guys from Knights4Charity. With the endurance records they have under their belt, like Dave Holby-Wilinsky’s 2.5 years rowing the equivalent of once around the world for breast cancer, they helped me pull out all the stops”.

More fund raising events in aid of Dingley are planned to take place throughout the coming year at M&S, “Our aim is to smash last year’s charity total”, commented Bex “and today has set us well on the way to achieving that for Dingley, I’m very grateful to our staff and customers for giving this their full support and to Knights4Charity for making this event happen”.
