It is no accident that the waterways around Hungerford are the envy of other towns. A small army of volunteers regularly give time and effort to the charity ARK - Action for the River Kennet. river kennet ark hungerford main 02Over the coming weeks, as part of their Bearwater Community River Days Project, ARK are enlisting helpers to restore over 100m of riverbank at the rear of Bearwater through Hungerford. Their task will be to repair erosion and add native plants which provide excellent habitat for a wide range of important chalk stream wildlife including water voles, wildfowl, fish and insects.

The Bearwater Community River Days Project will be taking place on 19th, 20th, 26th & 27th April and as well as individuals, some businesses are doing their bit for the community. Hungerford's Dick Lovett, BMW dealers will be sending along a team to support the initiative - corporate social responsibility in action. If you or your business would like to support this or other projects, ARK run volunteer tasks every weekend throughout the year along the Kennet.
