Our Lady of Lourdes up for major architectural award

on 27 October 2015.

It didn't hold its first Mass until Palm Sunday 2014, but already Hungerford's Arts and Crafts Movement-inspired Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Priory Road has been shortlisted for the 2015 President's Award for New Church Architecture.

Designed by Jeremy Bell of JBKS Architects, the church is a redbrick and timber construction built in the centre of a crescent of 14 houses, which were created and sold to finance the project. Our Lady of Lourdes started its life more modestly in 1939 as a corrugated iron prefabricated building, but from a small acorn this mighty oak has grown.

The winner due to be announced on November 5th.
