good friday hungerford

On Friday, amidst the usual gentle bustle of the town centre, there appeared a humble and poignant reminder of the significance of the day.

Members of the congregations of the Churches of Hungerford paraded slowly along the high street towards the Town Hall. From the South Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church met with The Hungerford United Reformed Church

and from the north St Lawrence's Church of England met with the Methodist Church, all arriving at the steps of the Corn Exchange at 11.00am.

From there the Passion of St Mark was read in the traditional way with church leaders and congregation alike reading

their parts. Some hymns were sung before the gathering dispersed leaving the town again to its daily business.
It was a reassuring sight for many residents and a fitting way to observe one of the most significant days of Christian faiths.
