Catwalk comes to Hungerford

on 01 November 2016.

Fashionistas and Hungerford are not two words you would normally see together, yet last Thursday witnessed an extraordinary fusion of style and beauty in our very own Town Hall as several hundred luna showexcited women (and a few men) perched on bubble-gum pink chairs along the length of a catwalk beneath a canopy of twinkling lights.

The very talented Caroline Dallas of Luna Boutique in the High Street, choreographed a sensational parade of their 2016 Autumn/Winter collection to a heady techno beat. It was a very long way from Hungerford's twin set and pearls image. Dallas' genius is translating seasonal trends into wearable, affordable pieces which give ordinary women a fashionable edge. Using a simple template of jeans, boots and some fabulously concealing ponchos and knitwear, Dallas sent out a cleverly combined mix of professional models and regular women to convince us that fashion is not only for the very young and very thin.

It was a showcase for demonstrating the simplicity of building an effective wardrobe from a few basic pieces and some well-chosen accessories to create a modern silhouette. Tunics were matched with leggings and overlaid with gilets, ponchos and long-line cardigans which draped beautifully. Dotted here and there were a few flamboyant pieces like silk bombers jackets and jewel coloured tweed coats but even the most conservative shopper was left in no doubt that a few well-chosen accessories - bags and scarves in great colours and some well chosen statement jewellery - can lift the ordinary into something standout for minimal investment.

As well as the clothes, there was a talk from House of Colour, showing us how the correct choice of colour palette can transform our appearance and some great skin care and make up tips from Secrets Nail and Beauty Salon to perfect our winter look.

At a time of year when most of us are feeling a little dreary and in need of a boost, Caroline Dallas showed us how we could do it easily and without breaking the bank. For more information, please visit the microsite.
