About us

Our bedroom refurbishment was completed in March 2018 providing guest with 40 new look rooms. The Bear Hotel is one of the oldest Inns in England located in the charming market town and its surrounding areas form part of the North Wessex Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With landscaped gardens and characterful features in the Hotel, the Bear provides a relaxed homely stay, ideal after a busy day of meetings or back from exploring the local area.

Enjoy seasonal menus offering your favourite English dishes along with real ales, premium lagers and fine wines, the Bear is the perfect location to enjoy any occasion.

The Bear also has its own self-contained function suite for 80 guests, perfect for weddings and special occasions.

With free wi-fi and only 15 minutes from the M4 the Bear can cater for all of you meeting requirements.

Whether you are looking for a working breakfast, a light lunch or a long drawn-out, slap-up dinner, The Bear is the perfect environment to suit any occasion and can accommodate you at comfortable tables in the bar and lounge or in its large, airy dining room.

For the whole of December, The Bear are offering a free bottle of Prosecco when six or more people dine from their delicious Festive Menu, fantastic value at £17.99 for two courses or £20.99 for three.

In addition, The Bear are offering a Festive Party Menu which for only £24.99 is offering three course dinner and disco in the Riverside Suite with two meals for the price of one on any Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday prior to December 16th. This works well for larger parties of 40 plus, although The Bear are offering a joiner party night for small groups to take advantage of this offer on Saturday 19th December.

This year The Bear are offering a spectacular Christmas Day Menu for £59.99 per person and under 12s only £19.99. On New Year's Eve you can enjoy a night of dancing, a hot and cold buffet and a glass of champagne at midnight for only £24.99 The Bear regularly have special offers. See their website for details

Functions & Conferences

The Bear has excellent function facilities - perfect for weddings, conferences and meetings - for up to 80 guests. The hotel has a wedding license and your wedding ceremony will take place in our Riverside Suite. The Riverside is a self-contained suite with its own bar and terrace overlooking the River Dunn.

For smaller meetings then we also have the Bear Island Boardroom available.


The hotel has 39 en suite bedrooms, with a mixture of doubles, twin, doubles with views over Bear Island and superior rooms for that special occasion. All rooms have TV, telephone, hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities and Free WiFi.
