About Us

Hungerford and Area Children's Centre welcome you to join in the wide range of activities and sessions that we offer to parents and children. Meet someone new, acquire a new skill, share your parenting stories and find out and receive help from our skilled workers. They will be able to signpost you for support with parenting, housing, benefits, learning or work.

Our base is Hungerford Nursery School Centre for Children and Families, in The Croft, Hungerford. We offer support across our reach area in the following towns and villages:

Advice and Slice

What is Advice and a slice?

A small, friendly support group for parents/carers who may be caring for a child or infant with an additional need. Children and families attending may or may not have already been diagnosed.

Families with children of all ages are welcome to attend ‘Advice and a Slice’. The session operates as a coffee afternoon with refreshments where we talk, offer support and advice.

We aim to invite professionals every term to speak to us about specific issues, such as; behavioural specialists, autism development workers, speech therapists.

We are very happy to invite professionals in to this group who may specialise in something of interest

Big cook Little cook

What is Big Cook Little Cook?

This is a Play and Learn session which includes cooking and healthy eating. You can sign up for one of our cooking groups and try your hand at making healthy snacks e.g. fruity flapjacks, with your children.

There is also an opportunity to play with an interesting variety of resources in which both children, parents and carers can enjoy, learn and achieve together.

Who is it for? For parents and carers with children under 5 years.

When is it?  Wednesday 1.00pm – 2.30pm, during term time only.

How much does it cost?  £1 voluntary contribution towards refreshments

Caterpillers

What is Caterpillars?

Caterpillars is a safe place, following on from parent and baby clinics, for movers and groovers to further develop their skills and explore the Children’s Centre play areas before progressing on to one of our Play and Learn sessions.

The session includes physical areas to explore and singing and rhyme to develop early language. Sensory experiences are important for our Caterpillars as they are learning all the time, so we do throw in the odd messy play activity in the morning too!

Children’s Centre staff are also available to discuss and talk with you about familiar topics such as; toileting, healthy eating and safety.

Who is it for? Parents/carers with babies or young toddlers who may be rolling, crawling bottom shuffling or are beginning to take those precious first steps. Caterpillars is generally for children between 6 and 14 months.

 When is it?   Every Tuesday morning, 9:00 – 10:30am

Dad and Me

What is Dad ‘n’ Me?

A special morning, once a month for children 0 -5 years to bring their dads, grandads or any male carer to be a part of their play.

We are lucky enough to have use of the nursery school’s outdoor play area located at the rear of the Centre, as well as our own play area. Here you can join the diggers busy at work in the sandpit, go on a bug hunt, or take 5 minutes out to relax in a wigwam!

Snacks for children, and a bacon roll or vegetarian option with tea or coffee for adults is served from within the Children’s Centre.

Who is it for? Dads, grandads and male carers together with children under 6 years.

When is it?  The first Saturday of each month from 10am – 12 noon

How much does it cost?  £2 voluntary contribution towards refreshments

Messy play

What is Messy Play?

A messy session giving a truly sensory, fun filled experience. Bring a spare set of clothes!

Who is it for? Under 5′s and their parents/carers

When is it?   Every Friday 1.00pm – 2.30pm, during term time only.

Where is it? The Croft Hall, The Croft, Hungerford, RG17 0HY

How much does it cost?  FREE

Marvellous Multiples

What is Marvellous Multiples?

A drop-in group for parents or carers of multiple birth children.

Who is it for?  For parents/carers of twins, triplets, quadruplets or even more from 0 – 5 years.

When is it?  Third Tuesday of every month from 2pm – 3.30pm

Where is it? Hungerford Children’s Centre, The Croft, Hungerford, RG17 0HY

How much does it cost?   £1 voluntary contribution towards refreshments

Play and Learn

What is Play and Learn?

An interesting variety of resources and team of friendly, experienced staff combine to create a safe environment in which both children and parents/carers can enjoy, learn together and achieve.

Play and Learn provides opportunities for everyone involved to:

  • Be creative
  • Mix and Play with others
  • Explore new environments
  • Chat and share advice
  • Access Early Years resources
You can find out about other organisations offering support to families such as speech therapists.

Who is it for?  Play and Learn is for children under the age of 5 years accompanied and supervised by their parent or carer. It’s great to meet grandparents, childminders and nannies too!

When is it?  Wednesday 1.00pm – 2.30pm and Thursday 9.00am – 11.00am
