About Us

The reliably wonderful Hungerford and District Arts Festival has now published its 2017 programme which runs from Friday 30th June to Sunday 16th July, and what a line-up. Hungerford’s Festival Fortnight is serving up over 50 events with over fourteen dedicated just to music. This annual jamboree of poetry, history, book readings, comedy, open gardens, Open Studios exhibition, puppetry, bell ringing, workshops, a full programme of events for children and even Jonathan Dimbleby's Any Questions coming to town, this year's festival is bringing the high quality combo of arts which Hungerford has come to expect

The headline act this year is international star Ben Waters and his amazing Big Bad playing on 15th July. One of Europe’s supreme boogie piano players, Ben's career has spanned 25 years of rocking audiences around the globe, working with such legends as The Rolling Stones, Shakin’ Stevens, P J Harvey, Bobby Womack, Paul Weller, Dave Gilmore and Dave Stewart. This is a unique opportunity to see Ben and his hand-picked band of fine musicians.

The Festival launches on Friday 30 June with cabaret artiste extraordinaire, Lili la Scala, internationally acclaimed for her striking vintage looks, high heels, big voice and lacerating wit. The programme also features the Wessex Male Choir, acclaimed young Russian pianist Alexander Karpeyev, bluegrass band Francis Pugh and the Whisky Singers, and flute-harp-cello combo Trio Sospiroso. Theatrical treats include a tribute to Stan Laurel by the Hi-de-Hi actor Jeffrey Holland, and The Watermill Theatre’s touring comedy Nesting. The festival ends in party-style on Sunday 16 July with La La Piano Bar, where New York cool club meets Berlin cabaret.

What is most astonishing about this most professionally run festival is that is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded by Hungerford Town Council, The Town and Manor of Hungerford, and Greenham Common Trust, together with sponsorship by local businesses and individuals whose generous help enables ticket prices to be kept as low as possible.

Box office facilities are kindly provided by Newbury Building Society (Hungerford branch) by phone on 01488 684038 or online at hungerfordartsfestival.com/tickets.
