About Us

West Berkshire

The West Berkshire group supports children and their families across the West Berkshire area, from Pangbourne and Calcot in the east, to Hungerford and Lambourne in the West.

About Us

Dingley provides a place where children – from birth to five – with additional needs and disabilities can develop skills through play under the supervision of qualified staff. Parents and carers are also welcome, and for them Dingley centres are places to make friends and share experiences. At present, we are supporting over 90 children and their families at the three Dingley centres in Berkshire.

Every child who attends is regarded as an individual with the right to take a full and active part in every day life and Dingley aims to facilitate their entry into the next stage of education.

We began our work in Reading and became a registered charity in 1988. Originally based at Battle Hospital, we then moved to a room within Reading’s specialist children’s centre on the Royal Berkshire Hospital site. With a successful track record in supporting the whole family and with the numbers of children being referred to us growing, in 2009 we moved into larger premises in Reading. To assist parents and carers, we have two more centres in the key locations of Wokingham (opened in 1996) and Newbury (opened in 1997).

From 1st October 2010 we became a Company Limited by Guarantee in order to strengthen our organisation. In 2011 we were awarded The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for groups of volunteers who work in their local community for the benefit of others. This prestigious UK National Honour recognises outstanding voluntary contributions and sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering, with the work of those awarded being judged to be of the highest standard. In 2012 all 3 Dingley Centres were rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted with an inspector reporting: “All children thrive in this vibrant and child-centred atmosphere. Children eagerly enter the centre, ready to engage in play”.

Can Dingley be your “Charity of the Year”?

Does your work place have a “Charity of the Year”?

If they do, can we please ask that they consider nominating Dingley. By supporting us they will be helping very young children in Berkshire who all have additional needs and disabilities – plus their families and carers. As one parent says: “We would have been lost without the support that Dingley and it’s amazing staff have given us. Not only have they changed G’s world around for the better but they have supported us his family throughout that year as well.”
