About us

Contact with CHAIN can be made through our office situated behind The Creative Toy Den in Church Street. The address is Unit 9, Russell Marshall, High Street, Hungerford, RG170NL, and the telephone number is 01488 683727.

The office is manned (usually by Ladies) by ten volunteers who work in pairs each day from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m... They can call upon several other volunteers should the need arise.

The majority of the work involves the request for transport to one of the local medical centres or further afield to hospitals. These requests have to be co-ordinated with one of our volunteer Drivers, who use their own cars.

If you would like to become a volunteer Driver (Ladies or Gentlemen) please contact the office, thanks.

Although CHAIN is a charity, it is requested that a voluntary donation is made to help defray some of the cost of the journey.

Our drivers receive a token payment of .40p per mile travelled, (they give their time freely).

Some of the journeys can be time consuming, if they are to Oxford, Reading or Swindon Hospitals, but can also rewarding.

Help is given at each destination, at reception desks etc., so that the client is at their ease with their visit to Hospital or other appointment.

The office staff do get requests for help other than transport, from time to time and if we are able to help we will, as our motto is on the lines of ‘’if we don’t know, we know a man (or Lady) who does’’

If you can help us in any way please click on contacts on the left to open up to, telephone numbers or e-mail addresses.
Thank you.

Afternoon tea, Pimm’s for me!
Blandy’s bistro are renowned for their extraordinary afternoon tea. It is a banquet affair with a selection of delicate finger sandwiches, homemade scones with tiptree preserve and clotted cream along with a variety of homemade cakes.

Your library is about so much more than books
Judging from the amount of community activity going in Hungerford Library, the council are going to have a hard time justifying its closure in their next round of swingeing cuts.
