A food cooperative for Hungerford?

Hungerford Environmental Action Team

The possibility of a Hungerford community food cooperative is to be discussed in an open meeting at The Croft Hall on October 14th (Tuesday) at 8.00pm organised by HEAT (Hungerford Environmental Action Team).

A community run food co-ops would pool all the members’ buying power to order food in bulk and direct from the main suppliers at much better prices than normal retail.

There is a community co-op called True Food Community in Reading and a speaker from that organisation will make a presentation to the meeting.

Typical food buying co-ops either place but produce based on pre-orders from members or, alternatively, buy in bulk for the best prices and then sell on to members via stalls, box schemes.

Your library is about so much more than books
Judging from the amount of community activity going in Hungerford Library, the council are going to have a hard time justifying its closure in their next round of swingeing cuts.
