Hungerford – such a beautiful place to live and we love it!

on 15 August 2013.

Hungerford is internationally famous for being a beautiful place to visit and, as it sits at the heart of the North Wessex Downs, it is in a beautiful location too.

And according to a recent survey of Hungerford residents, we really care about our town and surrounding countryside with 98% of us in favour of keeping the town's traditional character and 99% of us wanting to protect the Marsh, the Common and all our surrounding countryside.

The vast majority of us want the town to promote itself and its countryside as a tourist destination and, of course, this new Hungerford Townsite be doing just that – and we are not alone.

Perhaps not so well known is that Hungerford is at the heart of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the North Wessex Downs organisation is dedicated to telling everyone about the glories and attractions of the area.

The North Wessex Downs, a unique and spectacular landscape of tranquil open downland, ancient woodland and chalk stream covers 668 square miles from Reading and Swindon to Andover and Devizes.

As well as promoting this outstanding area, the North Wessex Downs organisation, based in Denford, alsonwdmap lists news and guides of places to visit from gardens to farms and estates to where to buy local produce food and drink. Its primary purpose is to conserve our area of natural beauty and that is something, the survey says, so many of us support. If you have any thoughts or comments about how we can do more to conserve and promote our lovely area why not no share them with us by clickig on 'Contact Us'.
