James and Magda
James Callery and his wife Magda have been at the Halfway Inn since January 2010. With Magda’s eye for design, colour and detail she has created a beautiful and fitting homely environment in which to enjoy the freshly cooked food from James’s kitchen. Using fresh ingredients, wherever possible locally produced, James pushes the boundaries of his culinary passion in pursuit of individuality and excellence.
The Hall and Woodhouse Best Food Pub award acknowledged James and his team’s specialism in combining great flavours to produce traditional dishes with their own distinct interpretation.
The Halfway Inn is a popular and successful restaurant so it is advisable to book early if you want your visit to be at peak times in the latter part of the week. Weekdays the restaurant is as enjoyable as at any other time and the menu and welcome is the same.
The Halfway Inn will soon be opening on Sunday evenings too.

In the warmer months there is an impressive terrace garden for alfresco dining, events and even weddings. If there is an occasion you would like to mark at the Halfway Inn James, Magda and their team will always work with you to accommodate and create your own exclusive experience – be it a birthday dinner for a few or a wedding celebration for many.

Lobster bisque with sea food tortellini
(Vegetarian option beetroot soup with horseradish cream)
Classic beef carpaccio with mustard fruits, parmesan and capers
Soused herring with beetroot and fennel salsa
Roasted pumpkin risotto with goats cheese and toasted pumpkin seeds
Lemon grass and mint sorbet with blood orange jelly
Roast fore rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding and devils on horse back
Roast turkey, with homemade cranberry sauce and pigs in blankest (Both roasts are served with roast potatoes, carrots parsnips, Brussel sprouts and cauliflower cheese and red wine jus.)
Pan roasted sea bass on a bed of kale tossed with chestnuts and fresh chilli
Duo of parcels, spinach ricotta and wild mushroom and chestnut on kale and roasted root vegetables.
